The Arab Center for Artificial Intelligence is pleased to present the annual Arab AI Award, recognizing outstanding contributions in the field of artificial intelligence by specialists, engineers, technicians, and the Arab public. This award aims to promote the advancement of AI in the Arab world and usher in an era of smart technologies.

This Year’s Theme:

The focus of this year’s award is on innovative creativity in filmmaking using the full spectrum of AI tools, from scriptwriting to final production. The film should be 5 to 10 minutes long and address a topic related to the environment, health, or food.

The Arab AI Award serves as a catalyst for pioneering AI applications, encouraging the Arab world to embrace the transformative power of this technology.

Vision:

To become a leading platform highlighting the immense potential of AI in serving the issues and goals of the Arab world and enhancing the region’s position as an AI innovation hub.

Mission:

– Recognize outstanding achievements in AI by specialists, engineers, technicians, and the Arab public.

– Stimulate innovation in AI applications addressing challenges and issues relevant to the Arab region.

– Raise awareness of the importance of AI and its role in achieving sustainable development in the Arab world.

Objectives:

– Attract innovative submissions from across the Arab world in the field of filmmaking using AI tools.

– Highlight significant issues related to human values and the environment through AI-produced films.

– Promote the exchange of expertise and knowledge on AI between filmmakers and AI specialists in the Arab world.

Goal:

To make the Arab AI Award a prominent global platform for encouraging AI innovation for the benefit of Arab communities, and to strengthen the region’s role in shaping the future of AI.

Rules and Conditions:

1. Submissions that focus on the following topics are accepted: education, environment and climate change, health and healthcare, or food.
2. Short films are accepted, whether in the form of narrative drama or fictional storytelling. (Documentaries and animated films are not accepted).
3. The film duration must be between 5 to 10 minutes.
4. Content that is extremist, promotional, or politically driven is not accepted. The judging committee reserves the exclusive right to deem any work ineligible if the content is considered inappropriate.
5. The film must demonstrate innovative use of artificial intelligence tools at all stages of production, from script development to the final production.
6. The language used in the film must be Arabic (media language).
7. Participation is open to individuals of all ages. Only one submission per participant is allowed. Teams of up to three members can participate, with one individual designated as the team representative to act and enter the competition on behalf of the team. The individual submitting a team’s entry represents and warrants that they are the officially authorized representative of that team and have obtained all necessary rights to act on behalf of the team. If a prize is awarded to a team submission, the prize will be awarded to the team representative, who will decide how to distribute the prize among the team members.
8. By submitting the work, the participant agrees that they are the owner of all intellectual property related to the work, including any image, sound, music, or information, or that they have obtained permission to use them, or that publicly permitted sources have been used under “fair use.” Submissions are accepted if the participant is the owner of all rights of use. The award reserves the right to request proof of rights compliance and to reject the submission in case of non-compliance. The award’s relationship will be exclusively with the participant as the work’s submitter and not with other individuals, companies, or organizations.
9. The film must not contain content that infringes or violates the rights of others, including but not limited to privacy, publicity, copyright, trademarks, trade secrets, patents, or any other intellectual property rights.
10. The film must not contain obscene, vulgar, pornographic, inappropriate, profane, hateful, defamatory, slanderous, libelous, or offensive material, nor promote illegal activities, violence, or unlawful behavior.
11. The film must not promote discrimination or contempt against others based on race, ethnicity, nationality, social class, gender, religious affiliation, age, or disability.
12. The film must not contain any viruses, malware, or other software intended to harm the award’s website/platform or any computer or software.
13. The award committee reserves the right to use images and film clips from the work for publication, public relations, advertising, and to post images or film clips online (on websites, social media) for promotional and marketing purposes.
14. The award committee reserves the right to screen the winning films at the award ceremony or on the award’s website or social media without requiring additional consent. The committee may edit the film to ensure quality or for any other purpose it deems necessary or desirable at its sole discretion.
15. Acceptance of all the award’s rules and conditions is required. The judging committee has the right to evaluate the submitted works, and the committee’s decisions are final and non-negotiable. No responses will be provided regarding non-winning films.
16. Submissions are evaluated by the judging committee based on the following criteria: overall quality of the film composition, coherence of the narrative and artistic message, originality of the film, artificial intelligence techniques used (creativity in use, skills, integration of these techniques in the film as a whole).
17. The works submitted must have been produced and presented specifically for the Arab Artificial Intelligence Award – Films, and must not have won awards or participated in other festivals.
18. If it is not practically possible to hold the award ceremony as planned for any reason beyond the control of the award committee, including but not limited to, a force majeure event, computer virus or software errors, tampering or unauthorized interference, fraud, technical malfunctions, government orders, natural disasters, or the effects of any pandemic, or any other reasons that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the ceremony, the award committee reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to modify, suspend, or cancel the ceremony. In the event of cancellation, the award committee reserves the right to distribute the awards remotely to the winners.

Prizes:

  • First Prize: $30,000 USD.
  • Second Prize: $15,000 USD.
  • Third Prize: $5,000 USD.

The three winners will be awarded certificates, trophies, and an invitation to attend the award ceremony, including travel tickets (economy class) and accommodation for the ceremony.

Award Committee:

The award committee supervises all procedures for awarding the prize, including defining the evaluation mechanism used by the judging panels, receiving submissions, selecting the judging panel members, reviewing the judges’ reports, and approving the final results.

The committee oversees the Arab Artificial Intelligence Award Festival, which is held annually to celebrate innovation in artificial intelligence in the Arab world.
